Q&A+About+Female+Brazilian+Waxing+Simply+Mia's

What is Female Brazilian Waxing?

Brazilian waxing is a cosmetic form of temporary hair removal from the genitalia using wax. At Simply Mia's, the owner. Mia is also the provider and will guide you through your first waxing. If you have had this done before, you will experience a unique waxing experience, unlike any other waxing place you've been to before.

What areas are involved in female genitalia Brazilian waxing?

Standard Brazilians include the frontal pubic area (the mound), about 2 inches where the upper thigh meets the pubic area, the labia and inner folds, and the gluteal cleft including the area around the anus. It is optional to leave a landing strip on the pubic mound. Please make sure you communicate your preferences before your treatment. Pricing for a Brazilian does not include buttocks or tummy.

Where did the term Brazilian Waxing come from?

As the name suggests, Brazilians originated from Brazil where they developed a waxing method to remove hairs around the genitalia. This method was primarily used for individuals who wore scant clothing (Thongs) for shows or dances such as Carnival or Mardigras.  Brazilian wax became famous when it was introduced into the US when a hair removal salon called J. Sisters International Salon was opened in 1987. J. Sisters International Salon was opened in Manhattan, New York by seven Brazilian sisters Jocely, Jonice, Joyce, Janea, Jussara, Juracy, and Judseia Padilha. however, the waxing of the genital areas is not new. Waxing of the genital areas has been prevalent for centuries in Ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt, Arabia, Turkey, and Persia. Historically, the waxes were sugar-based and made with lemon. Today waxes are mostly comprised of natural tree resins (sap or even honey mixed with tree resins)

Will it be a painful experience?

Everyone experiences pain differently so there is no way to tell. If it were that painful, women would not be getting this done regularly. The genitalia have areas that are more sensitive than others such as the frontal mound and the clitoral area. The erogenous areas are particularly sensitive and many nerve endings are associated for a good reason.  As an expert, I know how to wax all areas of the genitalia to minimize pain and discomfort.  When the hairs are pulled, the pain is quick, temporary, and generally does not linger. A first-time waxing can be somewhat traumatic and you may have anxieties about the pain associated. You are exposed and perhaps very nervous. Your hairs probably have never been pulled out by the root and many are thick rooted. You don't know what to expect and this is all natural.  I am an expert and many of my clients came to me for their first waxings and some are still seeing me after several years.  I will talk you through the entire process. I will coach you to breathe properly and to relax your body. Once you start to relax, the process feels less intense and less painful.  After the first couple of pulls, you will begin to understand the process and this will ease your anticipation.  Once you learn to control the pain, things start to move along much easier. Subsequent waxing sessions on maintenance (done every 4 to 5 weeks) improve the pain levels due to shorter, thinner hair that is less resistant.  Waxing becomes a commitment so you don't have to shave or trim anymore and can enjoy hair-free results for longer. Estheticians are not medical doctors so we cannot recommend taking anything but it is advised to take your favorite pain reliever (for example 3 to 4 Ibuprofen) about 1/2 hour before your appointment. Ibuprofen acts as both an anti-inflammatory and a pain reliever. It is advised not to take aspirin as it thins the blood.

What should I do to prepare for my Brazilian waxing?

For safety and sanitary reasons, It is important to be impeccably clean. Bacteria around your anal area can be spread to open pores resulting in an infection.  A bathroom is available with cleansing wipes to use before your service.  Do not use a body scrub or any exfoliant for up to 4 days before the waxing. Your hair must be over a 1/4 of an inch for the wax to adhere. Waxing is a form of exfoliation and using an exfoliant prior could potentially irritate your skin.  Please do not apply any creams or lotions on the day of waxing. Waxing will not adhere to moist skin.

What if I started my period?

Your pain sensitivity may increase because the pain receptors are more sensitive during that time of the month. Bruising, bleeding, and possible lifting can occur because there is so much circulation happening in the area. Mia is very experienced and has worked on female clients during their menstrual cycles. Due to her expertise, my clients have commented that the pain is no different than other times. If you are wearing a tampon, I will have you insert the string so I can wax around the areas. You will know if you do not feel well, such as menstrual cramps or an extremely heavy flow. In this case, you may want to reschedule your appointment.  I do not charge for such incidences but I do keep track so we can schedule ahead on maintenance to avoid days you may expect your cycle.

What can I expect with my first Brazilian?

You can expect complete professionalism and a quality service from start to finish. Gloves are worn through the whole process and all instruments have been thoroughly sterilized for your safety per Washington State safety and sanitation guidelines.  Your esthetician will talk you through the entire process and you will be given information for your post-care. The service is performed on my electric treatment bed and it can be heated for your comfort. You are provided a towel to drape yourself until the procedure begins. The products I use to remove the hair are made of premium, high-grade, quality resin wax.  I will be applying a premium natural-grade oil to remove wax (applied with gauze) For your post-waxing healing, you will be advised to purchase the PFB Vanish post-waxing creams. Please visit my page Products which will explain these creams which are to be used for 3 days post-waxing to help hydrate, calm, and soothe the skin, reducing redness, irritation, and bumps.

How long should the hair be for waxing?

Whether you have shaved or not, the wax cannot adhere to any hairs less than 1/4″ in growth. 1/2″ growth is ideal. Your shortest hairs within a square inch area should be longer than 1/4".  Any hairs longer than an inch will be trimmed before your service. Never shave or trim between waxing appointments as this interferes with the growth cycle. Waxing has its best results of achieving smoother results for longer after the 4th or 5th consecutive treatment.

How soon will the hair grow back and what about maintenance?

This all depends on your hair growth. If you typically grow hair back quickly on your legs or underarms, expect your Brazilians to be more frequent too. After your first waxing hairs will grow a bit faster than subsequent waxes and you will possibly notice re-growth in 10 to 14 days. By the 4th or 5th maintenance waxing (done approximately every 4 to 6 weeks) you will notice that your hairs are finer and less dense.  Some have reported that continued Brazilian waxing has decreased the amount and thickness of the hair in general.  Maintenance waxing is ideal as hairs will be pulled while they are still thin, shorter, and not at full thickness, therefore they will be less resistive and the overall procedure will be less painful.

Why do women do Brazilians and for what reasons?

A Brazilian can be done for many reasons to reduce chaffing for sports such as cycling, swimming, running, dancing, performance arts, martial arts, art posing, etc. Other reasons can be personal and for pleasure. Removing hair from your genitalia increases the circulation of air which reduces sweating and odor. Whatever your reason the results of waxing will leave you feeling soft and smooth.

Why would you want to go to Simply Mia’s instead of the local spa?

Finding a good, reputable, and experienced esthetician can be tricky. Many spas have a high turnover rate so you may not always have the same esthetician. At Simply Mia’s, you will always receive your service from me.  There are no wait lines and there is plenty of parking out front on the street. You will be greeted and attended to immediately. The service will never be rushed because all appointments are treatments providing ultimate care to get you as smooth and hair-free as possible. Attention to detail is provided and the goal is to provide a thorough, and quality treatment. I am friendly, personable, and engaging. I try to make the whole experience comfortable for you.  Communication is important if for any reason you are uncomfortable with the process.

I reserve the right to refuse service to anyone at any time for any reason.

I look forward to providing you with the ultimate Brazilian waxing service in Seattle, WA.
